What Are Acupressure Points for Pregnancy?

Acupressure for pregnancy?  Isn’t that when they stick lots of needles in you?  I’m pregnant!  I don’t need more pain in my life right now!

Well, no. That’s acupuncture where needles are used to stimulate the acupuncture points, but it’s not “sticking” needles into your skin – acupuncture is a sophisticated form of medicine which is still largely underappreciated especially in Western countries.

Acupressure, a traditional holistic medical system that dates back to at least 2000 B.C., is a certain way of touching the body that encourages it to function better.  Certain points along the body are associated with balancing various functions all around the body.  While acupuncture uses needles to reach the point, a practitioner of acupressure would use their thumbs and palms to apply pressure to these spots.  Most of the times the pressure is felt as calming or relaxing but actually works at a cellular level to bring about the desired effect.

Maternity acupressure focuses on treating acupoints that help in bringing on labor and giving relief from labor pains and other discomforts. Additionally, the maternity acupressure techniques can be used to cope with various types of discomforts: back and neck pain, anxiety, nausea and seasickness, and other things.
