Maternity Acupressure method
induces labor naturally
Babies Are Worth It
by Pam Petak
December 7th 2006. I was in the waiting room waiting to talk to the doctor about being induced. When I was finally called back into a room I was first checked to see if I was dilated. I was but only to 1 and I had been for several weeks now. Since they don’t let you go over 42 weeks of being pregnant and I was already 41 weeks along I was instructed to go to the hospital the next morning. I was to be induced when I got there. I was not worried or scared or anything because I already had two children and I was induced with both of them.
6 a.m. December 8th 2006. I’m in the birthing room having the monitors hooked up and having the i.v. put in my arm through which the pitocin and the antibiotics will be delivered into my body. The pitocin is the medicine used to induce labor and I’m on the antibiotic because I was diagnosed to be group b strep positive.
The pitocin along with the antibiotics is stared with in 30 min or so. It wasn’t very long before I stared to feel the effects of the pitocin. Labor has started but It was mild. About 2 hours later the contractions are slightly stronger but still not bad yet. With in the next couple of hours the doctor came in and broke my water. That was the start of a unpleasant labor. The baby had had a bowel movement inside of me and now I was getting a little on the worried side.
Not to much later and the contractions are bad I’m in a lot of pain and I didn’t really want any pain medicine with this birth but I ended up giving in and got my first shot of stadol. Even with the pains being bad they weren’t showing up on the monitor that way. They where showing up as mild contractions. Now with the first dose of pain medicine taking effect I feel a lot better in fact I felt so good I did the chicken dance in my bed. Yes that was a sight to see. Everyone was laughing at me. I ended up later having 2 more doses that really didn’t do much of anything.
It was getting late now and everyone that was with my was getting tired and so was I. I had a lot of people with me friends and family. My husband was there my mom and sister my mother-in-law and my friends Tracy and Brittany where there also. They all did a great job of trying to help me through the contractions I was having. One of them would be rubbing my back or my belly or they would be putting pressure on pressure points to take my mind off the contractions. With all they done it only helped a little bit. At least they were all there for me and my baby.
It must have been shift change and I got a new nurse. I begged her to let me go outside and smoke but she said she couldn’t allow that. I wanted a drink food and a cigarette and I wasn’t allowed any of the above. All I was allowed was ice chips and they do no good at all. They don’t quench your thirst or make you feel full they are about worthless if you ask me. But more than food or drink I wanted to go outside and have a cigarette. Later on I went as far as telling the doctor if he let me go outside I'd be able to push. No such luck then either. It was worth a try though.
